History of Offinso College of Education

The Offinso College of Education was established in February, 1955 by the Gold Coast District of the Methodist Church, Ghana. The College was named Offinso Traning College, established purposefully to train women catechists for the church.

The College traces its history from Mr. Andrews Krakye Denteh who was a Tutor at Wesley College in Kumasi but hailed from Asamankama - Offinso.

The College started with thirty – two (32) females for the Two - Year Teacher's Certificate "B" and had the Principal Miss Dorothy M. Turnbull, and three other female Tutors as the only Tutorial Staff assisted by one main Clerk, who also functioned as the Bursar. The two - year certificate "B" programme was upgraded to four - year certificate "A" programme and by 1971, student enrollment had increased from 60 to 300.

In September, 1971, the College was turned into mixed Institution with the enrollment of 70 first year male students. Seventy - three male students from the then Aduman Training College were transferred to the College. In 1974, the two - year post - secondary certificate "A" programme was introduced in the College. This programme was replaced with three - year post – secondary programme, which was also replaced with the current three - year diploma in basic education since September, 2005.

Beginning from 2018/ 2019 academic year, the Diploma in Basic Education programme has also been faced out with the introduction of a four - year degree programme
