Institute of Education Strengthens Global Partnership through DAAD “Global Teaching” Project (2025–2029)

The Institute of Education, University of Cape Coast, has reaffirmed its commitment to internationalisation and excellence in teacher education through its active participation in the DAAD-funded “Get Ready for Global Teaching!” project led by the University of Education Karlsruhe.

The project, which runs from 2025 to 2029, brings together a network of partner universities across Ghana, Germany, Cameroon, Laos, Israel, Norway, the United Kingdom, and the United States, with a shared goal of transforming teacher education through global collaboration and intercultural exchange.

Advancing Global Teacher Education

The initiative focuses on preparing future teachers to operate effectively in culturally and linguistically diverse classrooms, with strong emphasis on Global Citizenship Education, inclusivity, and sensitivity to diversity and discrimination.

Through this partnership, participating institutions—including the Institute of Education—are working to:

  • Strengthen intercultural and linguistic competencies of student teachers
  • Promote critical reflection on global inequality and colonial legacies in education
  • Enhance teaching approaches suited to post-migrant and diverse societies

  • International Summer and Winter Schools
  • Blended mobility programmes and study visits
  • Scholarships for students and early-career researchers
  • Guest lectureships and collaborative teaching
  • International conferences and research networking

These activities are designed to deepen global perspectives in teacher education while fostering long-term institutional collaboration among partner universities.

Strengthening UCC’s Global Engagement

The University of Cape Coast, through the Institute of Education, plays a strategic role in this initiative as a key partner institution in Ghana. Academic exchanges already underway—such as staff participation in teaching and research activities in Germany—highlight the practical impact of the collaboration on professional development and knowledge sharing.

Looking Ahead

The “Get Ready for Global Teaching!” project represents a significant step towards building a globally responsive teacher education system, equipping educators with the competencies required to address contemporary educational challenges.

The Institute of Education remains committed to leveraging this partnership to enhance teaching, research, and policy engagement, while contributing meaningfully to global conversations on education.
